Fencing Grand Prix Epee Qatar 2023 Kicks Off

Doha, January 27 (QNA) – Fencing Grand Prix Qatar 2023 Epee competitions organized by the Qatar Fencing Federation (QFF), under the supervision of the FIE, kicked off today at Aspire Dome until Jan. 29.

The event will feature 350 players from 52 countries including 9 Arab countries: Qatar, Egypt, Morocco, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq, Lebanon and Algeria.

The first day of the tournament witnessed a great struggle between the participants in the women’s category in order to qualify for the main rounds in the tournament, one of the largest fencing tournaments under the classification of the FIE, with a total prize pool of USD 22,000.

After the preliminary qualifiers for women’s category, 32 players qualified today for the second round with the addition of 32 players who were exempted from participating in the first qualifiers according to the classification. As for the Qatari participation in the women’s category, it was limited to player Haya Deyab.

Competitions will continue on Saturday for men’s category with the participation of 241 players.

The Qatari national team is represented by Yousef Abdultawab, Mohamed Abdullah, Mohamed Al Haza, Abdulrahman Al Jadra, Mohamed Al Awlan, Jaber Al Fadaaq,  Mishaal Al Qahtani & Haya Deyab. (QNA)
