Stage set for Fencing Grand Prix and World Cup
DOHA, 08 February 2011 – Doha will host the 2011 Qatar Fencing Grand Prix for Men and World Cup for Women in Epee from the 11-14 February 2011 at the Aspire, Academy of Sports Excellence.
The organising committee held a press conference at the Qatar Fencing Federation (QFF) on Tuesday to brief media on the latest preparations for the event. About 274 fencers form Australia, Bulgaria, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Britain, Hungary, Iraq, Japan, Italy, Kazakhstan, Libya, Mexico, Netherlands, Palestine, Portugal, Poland, Russia, Sweden, Tunisia, Ukraine, USA, Venezuela, Turkey, Spain and Qatar have confirmed for their participation in the tournament.
Khalid Al Yazeedi, Director of The Tournament stressed that QFF has allocated prize money of USD 31,000 for men and USD 21,000 for women.
Mr. Ali Belhaj, QFF Technical Expert and Head of Technical Committee said that Qatar will be represented by 13 fencers in men event and 10 fencers in women.
